Carlos
I. Velázquez:
The
Man, The Myth,
The Legend.
(Hey,
you ask for it)
Born in the heart of everything that is Mexican, I was imported from Mexico City at the tender age of 3 months. Arriving in the great land of Texas, I learned the ways of the white man but soon found my soul searching for something it had lost…
I’m too tired…here’s the condensed version.
Name: Carlos I. Velázquez
Age: 23
Born: Mexico City, Mexico
Occupation: Student
BS in MIS @ UHCL (graduating summer 2002!)
Position: Director (Sure it’s a fancy title, but I have no power! J)
Lead Violin
I was first interested in Mariachi music in High School when I put together a rag-tag group of musicians to play “La Negra” for the Spring Variety Show. To my surprise we were a hit! Once I entered college, I was forced to abandon my music because of the schoolwork. I play for the Pasadena Philharmonic Society from time to time, but I never had a connection for Mariachi music. Then that faithful day two years ago when I saw the ad in the Daily Cougar announcing a Mariachi group and I jumped on the chance. I have been with the group since the beginning and I plan on being with it for a long time!
